It isn’t simply a bed, it’s also a sculpture or a room on wheels. Literally designed as a box bed, James Westwater creates the plywood chateau to serve as a private sanctuary, where one cannot just sleep on it, but also do other activities.

And maybe because it’s mobile, you can place this anywhere in the house, ideally outdoors. Based on its design and structure, though, a custom-made mattress may be needed to fit it.

This is exquisite looking bed is just one of the many sculptures artist Leah Poller recently created as part of her collection.

The idea sprung from the bed, to put it literally. Leah was injured and was resigned to boredom at her very own bed, when she got inspired and started creating miniature bed sculptures from there.

And thus it was born — Leah Poller’s The One Hundred and One Bed Collection.

Custom designed beddings provide a really personal touch to the bedroom. You can have everything in the exact color and style you want, as you have envisioned it. And since most stores don’t normally have this, finding a reliable custom designer could prove difficult.

And over here, is the work of Gillian Kenny, an Irish artist who reinvented mattresses found in the dumpster.

The realistic nature of photography has unfortunately led the medium to be associated with pragmatic truth, where each supposedly functions as a given of the other. Gillian Kenny chips away at this long-standing paradox within a series of fifteen pieces that use the silk-screen process to render a different photographic image upon each unframed, steel surface. Suspending her work between perception and depiction, Kenny then scratches or applies paint over these representations, so as to transform the objective to subjective. In the end, these pieces play with machinations of personal memory.
