Whose the better mattress salesperson, a man or a woman? According to Furniture Today, when it comes to a consumers’ sleep needs, women sales people are more “believeable” and can do the job better. And since mattress shopping is usually upon a woman’s scope in the household, dealing with a woman sales person is easier for them. Ergo, it translates to better sales.
Female sales associates are some of the strongest performers at Sit ‘n Sleep, the Los Angeles sleep shop powerhouse. Principal Nelson Bercier wishes he had more of them.
“It is very difficult to find career women,” he said. “About 20% of our sales associates are female. None are at the bottom end of the list. They do a better job with women.”
Women are said to be the traditional bedding consumers.
Why do women do so well on the sales floor? “You take a man and a woman of equal talents,” Bercier said, “and the woman will be the bigger writer. A woman is more believable. We trust a woman more than a man.””I think women are more comfortable with other women,” added Caron Mayser, a veteran sales associate who works at Sit ‘n Sleep. “Sometimes men are, too.” Mayser attributes some of her success to the fact that women believe she cares about them. “I’m not a used car salesman,” she said. “I’m a mattress professional.”
