I see tons of this stunt on Youtube and I have even posted some of those videos here, with a warning that kids should never attempt this. And here’s one reason why:

NESBIT, Miss. (WHBQ FOX13 myfoxmemphis.com) — A 13 year-old Mississippi boy is killed while doing a stunt called “mattress-surfing” with his brother and friends.

The stunt is a pastime trend teens are doing, riding a top of a mattress tied to a pick up truck while being pulled.

The stunt is shown all over You Tube, and while it may look fun it can be deadly.

Ronald Looney of Nesbit, Miss. says he lost his 13 year-old grandson Frank Sunday.

“Kids don’t try it, please. I know you’re having fun, but don’t do it.”

Looney says Frank was mattress-surfing with his 16 year-old brother and friends on College Road off Getwell Avenue in Desoto County.

Desoto County Sheriff Commander Mark Blackson says, “They were out in a field, they were using a mattress, pulling the mattress behind the truck, they had a rope tied to it, the 13 year-old and the other juvenile were on the mattress both of them came off the mattress.”

He says the area was very dusty and as Frank’s older brother backed the truck up, the dust made it very hard for him to see - causing him to accidentally run over his little brother, killing him.
