As a new store opens business during the holiday season, the owners decided to invite Santa Claus and spread Christmas cheer.
Santa Claus arrived by pickup Saturday morning at Slumberland Furniture Store to distribute twin beds and food baskets to 25 families in Southwest Missouri who have at least one child with no bed. Because of Santa’s busy schedule, he originally was scheduled to parachute into town from his sleigh, but rain and low visibility on a chilly morning proved to be a grinch.
Jim and Judy Cook, owners of Slumberland, opened the new store for business Saturday morning at 1329 S. Range Line Road, but didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share in the Christmas spirit started by the Minnesota-based business in 1993.
More than two dozen businesses and restaurants donated food, gift cards and bedding for the families.
