The chemicals used to flameproof mattresses have never been studied for human exposure risk in this application. (Except now the CPSC has released a limited study.)

We know almost all the chemicals to flameproof mattresses are acutely toxic and many also cause cancer.

Inflatable mattresses are great for when you’re having guest sleeping over. However, it’s not so great when you let a tiny baby sleep on it.

Mississippi authorities are investigating the death of a seven month old baby who apparently died after the inflatable mattress the child was sleeping on deflated. The tragedy comes as SIDS awareness month draws to a close. Local health and safety officials urge everyone to be aware of unsafe practices that can kill infants .

An Amberley couple has started a business turning cardboard waste into animal bedding after their horse became ill when it was stabled on a sawdust floor.After two years of studying the overseas market, Donald and Sue King imported a $70,000 machine that slices, dices and packages corrugated cardboard into 20kg bedding bales. They opened a factory in Hornby last month.Donald King said they would be happy if their Airlite brand eventually had a 10 per cent share of the 30,000-cubic-metre market for animal bedding in Canterbury.

Playa Vista community in Torrence, CA is a privately owned hillside that is now currently beefing up their security and access by erecting a 6-ft-wall to deter trespassers, wandering animals, and even kids who make use of mattresses to slide down to the hillside.

The changes came after people repeatedly ignored and removed new signs posted in the area, he added. “We were hearing from several people who live (at the top of) the bluffs and who walk on the road,” he said. “There were even kids getting on mattresses and sliding down the bluffs. … We had tried more passive ways to let people know what the rules were and to abide by the rules, and that didn’t work.”
