Bunk Bed Has Been Recalled

U.S. Commission has recalled Jubee Bunk , a Danish manufactured bed which has about 500 units distributed in the US. The bunks unfortunately have wooden side slats that were not installed properly, causing the collapse of the upper bunk. While there have been no serious injuries on record, a total of seven incidents have been reported.

Jubee Bunk are made especially for . It is designed in and has a step ladder and pull-out drawers. The bed does not have any label. Note that the safety commission is asking for only the recall of model number 82008.

New Federal Mattress Standard Expected to Save Hundreds of Lives, Prevent Thousands of Injuries

Mattresses manufactured in or imported into the United States on or after July 1, 2007 must meet the U.S. Commission’s () flammability standard. The mandatory standard is designed to reduce the severity of mattress fires ignited by open flame sources such as candles, matches and lighters. estimates that, once fully effective, the new federal flammability standard will prevent as many as 270 deaths and 1,330 injuries every year.

Acting Chairman Nancy Nord calls the new standard an important layer of fire protection in the home.

CPSC offers brochures on mattress flammability

It pays to be in the know and to be aware of what is going on, especially when this is an issue that will affect you and your family’s safety.

The Commission has published a consumer brochure highlighting the flammability standards that go into effect July 1. The tri-fold brochure, “ Safer,” explains the reasons the agency adopted the new standards and offers a half-dozen safety tips to further reduce mattress fires.
