    Therapedic Designer Offer Price Cut On New Line of Mattress

    Kathy Ireland, designer of is offering a more competitive price package for her ACafe line of , which launched last January.

    “I want everyone to be able to buy my products. I don’t want any mom not to be able to afford this .” Ireland has been quoted as saying this.

    The price for the mattress line is dropped from $699 to around $399-$499.

    In an interview with Today, Ireland said, “It’s so important we have the opening price points, so that we give her selection. She wants choices. At different times in her life she can spend different amounts of money.”

    Mattress Sales Declining in 2008?

    Today is predicting a decline in sales of mattresses for 2008 but foresees something good in terms of shipments.

    The forecast, compiled with input from virtually every major U.S. producer, envisions a difficult year for the industry, with producers and retailers alike struggling to eek out gains. It calls for a decline in units of 0.6%, with dollars growing by only 2.8%. That dollar growth would be the weakest since the recession year of 2001, when the dollar value of shipments declined by 0.3%, according to ISPA.
