Lead guitarist Michael Einziger, from the very popular California rock band Incubus, had us build a Tri-Pedic to fit the shape of his unique media room loft area that allows the comfort of sitting and playing the guitar while watching his favorite movie, as well as the ability to lie back and get some much needed blissful sleep.

This is so interesting. And so cool! Of course, if you have the means to pay for it, why not right? Blissful sleep indeed!

Selling mattresses seems like a routinary job and I never thought someone can make an interesting story out of this. Errine Dobson, a writer from Manhattan, comes up with this short piece on a day in the life of a mattress salesman.

I’ll take excerpts from her entry:

Legends say that in the ancient times, royalty slept on beds made of goat skin and are filled with water. But In the 1800s, the water bed mattress was first used in aid of medicine. British Dr. Hooper saw that it had medicinal benefits which helped patients with arthritis or rheumatism. And then in 1960, Charles Hall from America, reinvented the waterbed mattress and called it the Pleasure Pit. The hippies loved it and waterbeds were usually associated with them. But his reinvention became the basis of how the bed is made today.

Here’s a case of a guy from Wirral near Liverpool, England, who was literally killed by cigarettes. From the accounts of this news, he was smoking in bed when he accidentally dropped the cigarette on his mattress, causing it to blaze up and killing him in the process. He could not get up from it because he was disabled and therefore confined to the bed. But I guess, as with most smokers, who finds it hard to kick the habit, he could not help himself when he lit that cigarette while lying on the mattress. And of course, that would be the last time he would pop one.

What is interesting to the Ultra Kenko Deluxe Mattress is the its magnets in the inside the foam, acting as  a cocoon that will make a person sleep better. Inspired by Japanese sleeping mats, the maker of this mattress, Nikken, applies the same concept with the help of technology. Ultra Kenko is composed of rubberthane which has a massaging and relaxing effect on the person who lies on its mattress, promoting healthy slumber.

Interesting things to keep in mind when purchasing a mattress:

Firm mattresses are best for those who love to sleep on their backs. Pillow top or plush mattresses are great for side sleepers. So which one are you?

Consider your headboard and bed frame measurements in buying a new mattress. Mattresses today are thick and not making adjustments for the headboard, so your mattress could fit the entire bed, may be your problem later.

Mattresses carry a ten year warranty. If your buying for a room that won’t be used as much (like a guest room), go for the less expensive kind, to save on spendings.

Are you familiar with the show “Pimp My Ride”? Where plain old cars are given a fresh new look and are added with a couple of other interesting features? What if, instead of the car, someone decides to pimp up his very bed? Someone actually did. And it will have to look a little something like this:

The covering material does not contain any PVC’s, unlike old style mattresses.
