A man, aged 80 years old, resorted to putting hot irons on his bed to keep his mattress warm. It resulted in his bed and blankets flaming up and burn him. This is the second time such an incident has happened and we should constantly be reminded that we need to keep our beds and sleeping spaces safe.

STAVROPOL, January 11 (RIA Novosti) - An 80-year-old resident of Pyatigorsk in the North Caucasus was killed by poisonous fumes when he used four electric irons to keep his bed warm, a local emergencies spokesman said on Friday.

It’s news like this that teach us to consider properly transporting furniture and mattresses from one place to another. It may sound like a simple and logical task but transport needs strategic planning. While the story doesn’t say why the woman was allowed to be on the mattress while in transit (is she bedridden? is she not allowed to get up from it?), there clearly wasn’t any thought given to safety in general.

Woman dies from fall off mattress in truck bed

A 55-year-old Wills Point woman died Sunday night after falling off a mattress that was being transported in the bed of a pickup truck in the Waco Bay area in southern Hunt County.
