WSJ Features Mattress Designer - Vera Wang

As most everyone is aware, Vera Wang is most renowned for her gown designs, particularly her wedding gown creations. But not every person probably knows she also designs a line of and these was launched early this year (in partnership with ).

The Wall Street Journal has recently done an interview with her and below are the excerpts:

WSJ: Isn’t the business of selling mattresses and other home goods fundamentally different from the business of selling designer gowns and apparel?

Running the mattress business the old fashion way

Ron Trzcinski runs the Original , a Cleveland based establishment with about 11 factories and 100 spread across the Midwest. His experience in the business is a good 40 years, nearly, and this includes some 18 years with Corp. Despite the changes in the industry, Trzcinski still applies the most basic concepts in and is regarded highly in the business for his expertise.

He said he didn’t like the practice of manufacturers selling basically the same product with different names and through different retailers, making it hard for to compare. Nor did he like high-pressure sales tactics or the fake urgency of some retailers’ markdowns.

Mattress salesman jailed for advertising violation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — An owner of “The Mattress Guys” is serving five days of shock jail time for failing to remove an advertising banner from outside of his business. It reads only: “Mattresses Mattresses Mattresses.”

Dennis McDonald, an owner of the , had been issued nine summonses since May 5, 2006, because the sign violates the southeast Missouri city’s sign ordinance. Cape Girardeau ordinance prohibits all business-owned banner signs strung between fixed posts. McDonald claims his sign should be allowed, because it was there long before the ordinance was passed.He was found guilty of three sign violations in April. He was given probation, but was supposed to remove the sign and pay all court costs.

Symbol Mattress expands to Fort Wayne

must be padding up for Symbols Mattress, which has been operating for forty years now.

Fort Wayne, Ind. — Symbol Mattress of Indiana, a wholly owned subsidiary of Richmond, Va.-based Eastern Products Company, Inc., has announced that it will construct a new manufacturing building on a 15-acre site in the Airport Business Center on Earhart Lane near Airport Expressway in Fort Wayne.

The building will include 105,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and 6,000 sq. ft. of office. New machinery, equipment and special tooling will also be added as part of the project.
