Price increase on wholesale Sealy Mattress

announced Thursday night that it is planning to increase the prices for wholesale purchase of mattress. This is due to fact that flame-resistant materials are increasing in cost, and delivery expenses have also been skyrocketing.

“Every business in our industry has been affected by factors like higher fuel costs and material costs, and significant investments to meet the new flame resistant regulation for mattresses,” Larry Rogers, president of North America, said in a statement.

Mattrress Firm acquires Mattress Gallery

More company expansions on-going for , originally a Houston based company, as it tries to penetrate the Southern California market….

of Houston said today that it intends to buy Mattress Gallery, a Los Angeles-based chain with nine locations in County. Upon completion of the deal, Mattress Gallery locations will turn into stores and adopt its expanded product selection. The transaction is expected to be complete within 60 days.

Mattress Gallery locations are similar to stores, averaging 3,000 to 4,000 square feet. is known for its high-end products.

Spring Air gets bigger

., maker of Spring , has merged with Consolidated Inc and is now expanding its mattress operations in the United States.

Effective July 2, the of Spring Air will be Robert W. Hellyer, 48 of Roswell, Ga. Hellyer was most recently president of Mattress Co. Previously, he was the head of national sales for Stearns and Foster, a division of Inc. Jim Nation, the current president of The Spring Air Company, will hold the same title in the new Spring Air. Steve Antinori, currently chairman and of Consolidated will become chairman of the Spring Air board, the company said in a statement.

Sealy Continues to Sag

After Thursday’s closing bell, the released disappointing third-quarter earnings. While the Street consensus estimated earnings per share of 32 cents, reported EPS of only 22 cents per share. The earned $21.5 million in the quarter ended Aug. 26, down $7.9 million from the comparable period of 2006.
